How to custom sex toys from China without visiting the factory
The process is remote by design. A brand sends a brief — a reference product, a sketch, or a written spec — and the manufacturer handles engineering, sampling and production. Here is what each stage actually involves.
1. The brief (day 0)
Include the product category, target retail price band, target market (US, EU, Japan), certifications needed, and whether you want OEM (your design) or ODM (our engineering). The more specific the brief, the fewer sample rounds you pay for.
2. Quotation (within 2 working days)
A factory quotation should itemize: unit cost at your MOQ, sample cost, tooling (if any), packaging cost per format, and carton configuration. If a quote shows a single lump number, ask for the breakdown.
3. Sampling (3–5 days per round)
Functional samples are built from existing molds in 3–5 days. Review them on video: motor sound, button feel, waterproofing seams and silicone skin softness are all visible remotely. Two sample rounds is typical before approval.
4. Mass production (25–35 days)
After sample approval and deposit, bulk production runs 25–35 days. Ask for progress photos at tooling T1, first article, 50% and 100% completion — reputable factories share them without being asked twice.
5. QC and shipment
Every batch should pass IPX waterproof and dielectric testing before packing. Lithium battery products ship under UN38.3 documentation from Shenzhen or Yantian, EXW/FOB/CIF/DDP.
What does MOQ mean for a first order?
Standard color starts at 300 units per model; custom Pantone color or logo starts at 500. That is low enough to test a SKU with real customers before committing to a container.
Red flags when choosing a sex toy factory
- No certificate numbers offered, only badge images
- Quotes that do not separate tooling from unit cost
- No NDA template — or reluctance to countersign yours
- Sample fees that never get credited against bulk orders
